Jordan Baker a women who is a competitive golfer. She represents on of the "new women" of the 1920s also known as a flapper. Mrs.Baker enjoys partying, drinking, gossiping about peoples lives and smoking. Many people are intimidated by her because she gives off a masculine look. Her hair is bobbed and she has very wide set shoulders. Jordan is also very cynical and self centered. She is a very beautiful women but everyone is flawed, she has a hard time being honest and telling the truth.
In this picture we placed Jordan in a bar. She is drinking because women of the 1920s love to drink. The 1920s were referred to as the roaring twenties . Everything was expensive and extravagant. The bar she is filled with lot of men with old and new money who also love to have a good time. The camera angle is taken at a Long shot. We chose this so that you could see everything going on in the scene. You can capture the alcohol in the background, the cigarette in her mouth, and the men analyzing her.
The battle of suffrage was finally over. Women like Jordan wanted the right to choose and make decisions for themselves. Many held steady jobs, However the flapper was not all work and no play. Women often went to clubs and jazz bars to drink and socialize with other people. According too 1920-30.com "movies, radio shows, sophisticated advertising, and popular magazines all had an influence on the lives of 1920's youth who saw themselves as different from the older generation"; therefor, they acted different. Flappers wore heavy makeup , and short skirts without stockings.
In the scene Jordan is smoking a cigarette. The cigarette symbolizes her boyish mentality, smoking was not a thing before the 1920s but a lot of women rebelled against the norm afterwords. She is also in a bar and the man in the photo is lusting over her. After the 1920s women started being very promiscuous . The man symbolizes how flappers loved to talk about sex. The third thing we chose to symbolize was alcohol. Drinking for women was also a new thing during the twenties and the alcohol symbolizes how the twenties were years of extravagant partying
